Standing Water In The Crawl Space
Can you control crawl space humidity by removing standing water? Well, since this is a myth series, you probably already know the answer.
Removing standing water is a great way to help reduce some humidity, but you know what, removing standing water alone does not control humidity.
I can’t tell you how many times we talked to homeowners that have paid somebody to install a trench and a sump pump, and they were told that it would lower the humidity enough to where they wouldn’t grow mold on the joists and all that sort of thing.
Well, that’s not true.
How To Control Crawl Space Humidity
The only way to actually control humidity is what? A dehumidifier.
When you seal the vents in your crawl space and install a dehumidifier, you’re creating a year-round humidity controlled environment that is not conducive to mold growth.
Now, of course, the dehumidifier will run less if the standing water has been addressed properly, and even less when your crawl space is fully encapsulated, but removing standing water alone does not control humidity.
