Do I Need a Dehumidifier After Crawl Space Encapsulation?
Crawl space encapsulation can reduce the amount of moisture entering the space, but dehumidifier capacity still depends on how well the crawl space is sealed and configured.
If you plan to use a dehumidifier without full encapsulation, you may need a larger-capacity unit. A crawl space vapor barrier can help, but coverage of the ground, walls, pillars, and seams also affects moisture control.
A properly sealed space can help the dehumidifier work more efficiently as part of the overall crawl space humidity control system.

Dehumidifiers for Crawl Spaces Under 2,000 Square Feet
A 1,000-square-foot crawl space typically uses a 70- to 80-pint capacity dehumidifier. For crawl spaces under 2,000 square feet, the Aprilaire E070 (formerly 1820) is our preferred crawl space dehumidifier.
The Aprilaire E080 (formerly 1830) processes 10 more pints per day than the E070 and is quieter, but it has a larger cabinet.
The E080 can be a good choice for taller crawl spaces or basements under 2,000 square feet when lower operating noise is preferred. When ducted, the E070 is rated at 53 dBa and the E080 at 45 dBa, a difference of 8 dBa.
