In His Words: The Crawl Space Ninja Story From Our Founder
In 2005, my wife and I were expecting our first baby. I was in my mid-thirties and scared out of my mind. Needless to say, times were extremely tough financially. Having the added stress of a newborn was really weighing on me. It was through pure desperation and a lot of prayer that I began the journey which eventually led me to becoming the Crawl Space Ninja.
Straight out of high school I had started several businesses. These included everything from tanning salons, to computers, to rehabbing and flipping houses. I joined the Navy straight out of high school because I couldn’t afford college. Plus, the likelihood of scholarships or grants was not in my future. My parents were hard workers, and seeing their example taught me to work hard, as well. While in the Navy, I knew I wanted to someday own my own business. However, I never had any formal business training. I earned my associate’s degree while serving and graduated on-board the USS John F Kennedy in 1995. I was honorably discharged shortly after that returned to East Tennessee.
After several failed business attempts and my wife being 8-months pregnant, I decided to launch into another business. At this time, our tanning salons were hemorrhaging money Ultimately, this got us several months behind on our house payment. I didn’t know what to do, so I decided to get a job.
