Concrete Leveling Services in Huntsville, AL

Concrete problems often become noticeable through everyday routines. A driveway may develop a bump near the garage, a walkway can create a tripping point, or water may collect on a patio instead of flowing away. These issues can occur throughout Huntsville, although the conditions around a slab vary between neighborhoods such as Five Points, Bailey Cove, and the hills near Monte Sano.

Crawl Space Ninja uses polyurethane foam injection to restore suitable concrete without requiring immediate demolition and replacement. Our team can assess driveways, sidewalks, walkways, patios, porches, pool decks, basement floors, slab foundations, and other qualifying concrete surfaces. If settling has left your concrete uneven or difficult to use, contact us online to schedule an evaluation with our Huntsville team.

First, We Figure Out What Changed

The low slab is easy to spot. What’s underneath it takes more investigation. We look for gaps below the concrete, soil loss along the edges, cracking, drainage patterns, and changes in grade. A downspout emptying beside the driveway or an exposed corner of a patio can give us useful information about what has been happening beneath the surface.

That’s particularly important in Huntsville because the grade can change quickly. A house around Five Points may sit on a narrow, deep lot with a rear service alley, while a property near Mountain Gap or Green Mountain can have a much more noticeable slope. Huntsville reports that many local drainage complaints occur on the sides of its mountains, often involving drainage channels and swales. We don’t assume that water caused a particular slab to settle, but we certainly don’t ignore where it is going.

Lifting the Slab Instead of Replacing It

Concrete can be uneven and still have plenty of useful life left. If the slab itself remains in suitable condition, polyurethane foam injection, also called polyjacking, gives us a way to work underneath it. We create small access points and inject polyurethane beneath the concrete. As the material expands, it fills unsupported spaces and allows us to carefully bring the settled section back toward the elevation it needs. For the right project, that gives you several advantages:

  • Preserve good concrete: A usable slab doesn’t have to be demolished simply because it dropped.
  • Fill unsupported areas: Expanding polyurethane reaches voids beneath the concrete.
  • Make a controlled adjustment: We can gradually raise the affected section.
  • Reduce downtime: Polyurethane cures quickly compared with removing and repouring concrete.
  • Keep the project contained: Less demolition means less disturbance around the surrounding property.

That last point can matter on established Huntsville lots. Around Old Town, homes date as far back as 1828, with most built between 1880 and 1929. Five Points includes everything from Victorian houses and bungalows to Cape Cods and ranch homes. Exterior concrete may have been added or changed at different times, so we evaluate the slab that’s actually there rather than making assumptions based on the age of the house.

Getting Your Driveway and Front Walk Back in Line

Driveways and front walks usually get your attention first because you cross them constantly. One driveway panel can settle below the garage apron. A sidewalk section can drop enough to leave a raised edge. The walkway approaching the porch may stop lining up properly with the next surface. Concrete leveling may be able to correct:

  • Sunken driveway sections
  • Uneven joints between panels
  • Trip hazards along sidewalks and walks
  • Low concrete near the garage
  • Walkways that no longer meet steps properly
  • Voids underneath otherwise sound slabs

Huntsville’s neighborhood layouts make these jobs surprisingly different. Five Points retains its older street grid, narrow lots, and rear alleys, while the City notes that many neighborhoods built during the 1950s through the 1970s were developed without sidewalks.

Then there’s the terrain. Follow Bailey Cove Road south toward Mountain Gap, or move toward the higher ground around Monte Sano and Green Mountain, and we may be dealing with a driveway built into a more noticeable grade. We look at both sides of that slab, including where runoff enters, where it leaves, and whether soil is disappearing around the edges.

Patios, Porches, and Pool Decks Need the Same Attention Underneath

Backyard concrete can settle for a while before you realize how much it has moved. Maybe patio furniture starts rocking. A porch landing develops an uneven transition. Around a pool, one panel sits high enough above the next that you notice it every time you walk across it barefoot. We can evaluate polyurethane leveling for:

  • Settled patio sections
  • Uneven porch concrete
  • Low areas around exterior doors
  • Pool deck panels sitting at different heights
  • Voids beneath outdoor slabs
  • Uneven transitions between adjoining surfaces

Around Jones Valley and South Huntsville, the backyard grade deserves just as much attention as the slab itself. Properties between Whitesburg Drive, Bailey Cove, and the Green Mountain area can have very different elevations and drainage paths. If a patio sits at the bottom of the yard or runoff follows one side of a pool deck, that’s information we want before we start lifting.

The objective isn’t simply to make the top look level. We want to restore support beneath concrete that’s worth keeping.

When Concrete Leveling Is the Right Choice

One of the most important parts of our job is knowing when not to lift a slab. Polyurethane leveling works best when the concrete remains usable but the support underneath has changed. If the slab is severely deteriorated or broken into multiple failing pieces, replacement may be the better option. After inspecting the slab, underlying conditions, grade, and drainage, we determine whether leveling is appropriate for your driveway, walkway, patio, or other concrete surface.

Crawl Space Ninja serves Huntsville properties from downtown and Five Points to Monte Sano, Jones Valley, Mountain Gap, and Green Mountain. If sinking concrete is creating an uneven driveway, sidewalk, patio, porch, pool deck, basement floor, or other surface, contact us online to schedule a concrete leveling evaluation.
