How We Raise Concrete With Polyurethane Foam
A settled slab and a ruined slab aren’t necessarily the same thing. Concrete can remain usable even after material underneath it has shifted or a void has developed. In those situations, polyurethane foam injection, or polyjacking, may allow us to lift the existing concrete instead of replacing it.
We make small access points through the slab and inject polyurethane underneath it. The foam expands into open spaces and allows us to gradually bring the concrete back toward the elevation it needs.
For the right slab, polyjacking gives us several advantages:
- Keep what’s usable: Sound concrete doesn’t need to be demolished simply because it settled.
- Fill empty spaces: Polyurethane expands into voids beneath the slab.
- Control the lift: We can make measured adjustments as the concrete moves.
- Limit downtime: Polyurethane cures quickly.
- Reduce disruption: Less demolition means less material to break up and haul away.
That can make sense whether we’re correcting one section of concrete outside Rome or working on a property along GA 515 near Ellijay.
Driveways, Walkways, Patios, and Porches
Exterior concrete can show settlement in different ways. On a driveway, you may feel the uneven joint every time you pull into the garage. A front walk may develop a raised edge that becomes a trip hazard. On a patio, the first clue may be a corner holding water where it used to drain. We can evaluate and level suitable concrete with problems such as:
- Driveway panels sitting at different heights
- Low areas that collect or redirect water
- Uneven sidewalk and walkway joints
- Front walks that no longer meet steps correctly
- Settled patio or porch sections
- Voids beneath otherwise usable concrete
Where we’re working changes what we look for. A driveway near Dalton may cross a valley lot with a modest grade. Head toward Chatsworth, Ellijay, or Blairsville and we can be looking at concrete built into much steeper terrain. Around Rome and Cartersville, we may encounter established properties where walkways, porches, or driveway sections were added at different stages of the home’s life.
Water also leaves clues. On sloped North Georgia properties, we pay attention to the uphill and downhill sides of concrete. Soil washing away along a driveway edge, runoff following the side of a walkway, or water collecting beside a patio may tell us more about what is happening underneath the slab. We want to understand those conditions before we finish the lift.
Pool Decks, Basement Floors, and Other Slabs
Concrete leveling isn’t limited to the driveway and front walk. Crawl Space Ninja can also evaluate pool decks, basement floors, certain slab foundation applications, and other qualifying concrete. Polyurethane leveling may be appropriate for:
- Dropped pool deck panels
- Uneven joints around a pool
- Settled basement floor sections
- Voids beneath interior concrete

Around Gainesville, Cumming, and the Lake Lanier corridor, pool areas can sit on rolling residential properties where the grade outside the deck deserves attention. We check where water leaves the surface and whether there are visible signs of material disappearing from beneath the concrete. When the deck itself remains sound, leveling lets us concentrate on the affected section instead of automatically replacing the larger surface.
We use the same inspection-first approach indoors. North Georgia’s subsurface conditions vary from the Valley and Ridge province around Dalton to the Blue Ridge farther east. That doesn’t tell us why a basement floor moved, but it does reinforce why we inspect the individual slab instead of making assumptions based on the property’s location.
When Leveling Makes More Sense Than Replacement
Polyurethane leveling is meant for concrete that’s still worth keeping. It isn’t a way to make severely deteriorated concrete new again. A solid driveway panel with a void underneath may be a good candidate for leveling, while a slab broken into numerous deteriorating pieces may be better suited for replacement.
For suitable concrete, leveling can mean less demolition, less disruption around the property, and less usable material being hauled away. It also allows us to concentrate on the settled portion instead of replacing an entire driveway, patio, walkway, or pool deck because one area moved.
That’s an important distinction whether your property is off US 27 around Rome, near I-75 in Calhoun, along GA 515 toward Blue Ridge, or closer to GA 400 around Cumming. The terrain, drainage, property layouts, and concrete change as you move across North Georgia, so the answer shouldn’t be the same for every slab.
